The Effect of Emotional Labor on Depression, Labor Stress of Mental Health Social Workers - Focusing on the Moderating Effects of Social Support

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the emotional labor and depression, labor stress among mental health social worker, to explore the moderate effect of social support on those relationship and to suggest practical implications for programs for those mental health social worker. Data for this study wore collected through the use of a online survey instrument completed by 206 samples from mental health social worker. The findings of this study were as follows: First, emotional labor level, depression, labor stress of mental health social workers were higher than of other health and welfare professionals. Second, this study provided clear evidence that the emotional labor was very important variable which affected on depression and labor stress in mental health social worker. Third, the social support, especially peer support in workplace had moderate effect on the relationship between emotional labor and depression, labor stress. Based on these findings, the research discussion reduced the emotional labor and suggested effective intervention programs for the mental health social worker.
